Genesis
            The Department of Statistics was established in the year 1956, when Dr. C.P. Ramaswamy Iyer was the Vice-Chancellor. The department has been headed by eminent professors since its inception The curriculum was planned to train the students in the application of statistical methods in various fields, especially, in industries.  It then took a leading role in developing curricula and syllabi for M.Sc. (Statistics) and research programmes. Further, faculty members have been continuously involved in initiating research in Applied Statisticsand Biostatisticsand building up platforms for interaction with teaching and research in sister departments of Annamalai University.

Bayesian Inference.

The department has been awarded with a grant of Rs. 36.25 lakhs under UGC-SAP-DRS-I, for a period of five years from 2016 to 21. Also, the department has been awarded with DST-FIST grant of Rs. 53 Lakhs for a period of five years from 2016 to 2021.
