Chemistry

Mission
To excel in both teaching and newer research across novel areas of Chemistry and interdisciplinary areas to the students.
Vision
  • Creating understanding
  • To explore Chemistry
  • Strong passion for excellence
  • Learning through research
Genesis
Department of Chemistry made its beginning in 1929. It is one of the earliest incepted departments of study in this university. The department has been headed by eminent chemists. The department has made outstanding research contributions under Prof. V. Baliah’s dynamic leadership (1949-1976) and become a hub of research. The concept of steric enhancement of resonance was discovered by Prof. Baliah and Prof. M. Uma. This continues still with the strong research outputs from the faculties. Postgraduate curriculum is based on TANSCHE, to equip students with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to excel in both academic and competitive examinations.

Prominence
The Chemistry department produced notable chemists, scientists and academicians of international reputation among its alumni. These persons have made significant contributions to the field through their research, positions in academia, industry, and research institutions. The achievements of these distinguished alumni showcase the department commitment and its ongoing efforts to nurture talent and inspire future generations of young students.
